ST. GEORGE, Utah - + Video – Dixie State University students who plan to become elementary teachers someday are learning a whole new approach to teaching. They are being asked to integrate fine arts into their core class studies. The hands on approach and visual activities allow students to engage in what they will soon be teaching.

Endowed Chair for Elementary Arts Education, Jeri Crosby, believes her “flipped” style of teaching also allows students to preview research and concepts, and participate in online discussion before class so they can experience and explore the processes and skills during class. She said students tend to have better retention of the information when they learn this way. Crosby is a prime example of DSU’s Active Learning Active Life style of teaching.
