DSU accounting students get hands on learning by offering free tax service

ST. GEORGE, Utah (Dixie State University) - + Video DSU accounting students are once again offer free tax service to low and moderate income residents. 

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program allows the students to prepare public tax returns as part of their educational training.

This year there are 63 students dedicating their time in helping to file an estimated 1,800 tax returns. The free tax service is one of the largest VITA programs in the state saving taxpayers money while learning at the same time.

The VITA services are offered on Tuesdays and Thursday’s through April 11, in the Udvar-Hazy building from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. No tax return services will be offered during the week of Spring Break, March 13-17.

Taxpayers can’t make more than $54,000 to qualify for the services and have relatively simple tax returns to file.
