ST. GEORGE, Utah- + Video – The City of St. George is looking to adopt a new active transportation plan that would not only create better bike lanes along city roadways, but is designed to promote a healthier community. The Active Transportation Plan is one that has been mulled over for more than a year.  The cost of the plan is considered minimal as many of the current road systems could simply be re-striped.

The plan has already been presented before the city council but still has to go through the planning committee before final approval. Anyone wanting see copies of the Active Transportation Plan in it’s draft form can go to  www.sgcity.org/activetransportation.

So far the Active Transportation Plan has cost $35,000, which has been equally shared by the City of St. George and the Dixie Metropolitan Planning Organization.

The Active Transportation Plan fits under the City of St. George’s five-year strategic plan that Mayor Pike outlined last February called “More Happening Ahead.”
