Fused Glass Work and Oil Paintings By
Fused glass is a unique and interesting art form. Why one might ask? Mercedes would say because the artist dances with the color and construction of a glass piece and then the glass must dance once again with the extreme heat of the kiln. Sometimes you get what you envision and sometimes the light shimmers through the glass in unexpected ways!
Born in Croatia, she refused to be a victim of the oppression of the then communist government. However, even under a heavy-handed government she always saw sparks of light scattered throughout the darkness. She continues to see those lights today and offers them to others through her fused glass and painting.
She has been featured in her own one woman show at the Croatian Museum of Art in Cleveland. Additionally, she has been featured in St. George Magazine, De Zion Gallery, and the "Sparkle and Glow" glass exhibit at the St. George Art Museum. Currently her work can be seen in Juniper Sky Gallery in Kayenta, Utah. Her colorful art resides in homes in Europe and the U.S.
Mercedes lives in St. George, Utah and refers to her chosen home as God's country. "Here you have space to breathe", she says. She laughs and says, "I am all about the space for the light"!
She admires Patrick Henry's famous statement: "Give me liberty or give me death." and Picasso's statement, "Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life."
You will see all of this and more in her glass work and her paintings! Each piece is one of a kind and any reproduced copy will not be exactly the same as any other.
